Lee Company to
Fight Breast Cancer
Through National Denim Day
What can you do with $5? Can you save a life? Can you make
a difference? Could the cure to breast cancer really be in your
jeans?
Local businesses will find out this October when the Lee Company
sponsors Lee National Denim Day on Friday October 8 to raise
money for breast cancer awareness, education and research. This
year's national goal is $6 million. And it will come from the
pockets of jeans and denim shirts and denim jackets all over
the country and the Bayou Region!
Once again, the Lee Company is inviting businesses and corporations
to participate in Lee National Denim Day by allowing their employees
to wear denim to work on October 8. All they ask is for an individual
$5 donation per participating employee to the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation.
Last year, Lee National Denim Day exceeded its goal of $4 million,
raising more than $5.5 million and making it the nation's largest
single-day fundraiser for breast cancer. In three years, Lee
National Denim Day has raised more than $10 million for the Komen
Foundation.
Donations from Lee National Denim Day have funded everything
from research grants at the nation's most prestigious universities
and teaching hospitals to local screening and education programs
in medically underserved areas of the country. In fact, contributions
to Lee National Denim Day funded more than 30 percent of the
research grants and fellowships awarded by the Komen Foundation
last year.
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in
1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan
G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. The Foundation
is the nation's leading private funder of breast cancer research
and community programs.
In addition to funding research, Komen Affiliates fund innovative
and collaborative breast cancer education, screening and treatment
projects for the medically underserved in communities across
the country.
