Callahan Achieves Diabetes Educator Certification

Thibodaux Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that Allyson Callahan, RN, BSN, CCRN, CDE, recently earned certification as a Diabetes Educator by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE).

Candidates must meet educational and professional experience requirements to be eligible to take the written examination. The examinations tests knowledge in the areas of Physiology and Pathophysiology, Non-Pharmacologic Therapies, Pharmacologic Interventions, Monitoring and Management, Complications, Psychosocial Factors, Principles of Teaching and Learning and Program Development.

The NCBDE was established in 1986 by the American Association of Diabetes Educators to develop and administer a certification program for health professionals who teach persons with diabetes how to manage their disease.

The NCBDE supports the concept of voluntary, periodic certification by examination for all health care professionals in direct diabetes patient education. Certification focuses specifically on the individual and is an indication of current knowledge in diabetes education and care.
