Dumas Attends National
"Race for the Cure" to Fight Breast Cancer
Annette Dumas, RN, clinical director of Thibodaux Regional's
Medical/Surgical Unit, recently attended the Tenth Anniversary
of the Susan G. Komen Foundation National Race for the Cure in
Washington, DC, June 4 and 5. Dumas, a breast cancer survivor,
was accompanied by fellow survivor Donna Martin of MobileTel.
As a survivor and representative of the Bayou Region Affiliate
of the Komen Foundation, Dumas attended a pre-race reception
to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of the Komen National Race
for the Cure at the home of Vice President and Mrs. Al Gore.
Dumas and Martin also participated in the race as members of
Team Hope which was formed by affiliate members and breast cancer
survivors from across the country. The survivors were saluted
officially by Vice President and Mrs. Gore, as well as Race for
the Cure sponsors and diplomats from all over the world.
The National Race for the Cure is the largest 5K run/walk
in the world and is designed to raise money for breast cancer
research, education, screening, outreach and treatment programs.
The Susan G. Komen Foundation was established in 1982, has affiliates
in more than 100 communities across the country and has raised
in excess of $136 million since its inception. Race for the Cure
events are scheduled in affiliate communities across the United
States as well. The Bayou Region Affiliate Race for the Cure
will be held at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center on Saturday,
October 23.
