Thibodaux Regional is dedicated to handling all medical emergencies quickly and accurately. Our emergency physicians are here 24 hours a day to help you go from critical to comfortable as quickly as possible.

Upon arrival in the Emergency Department, you will be greeted and checked in by our medical personnel. A registered nurse will perform a triage assessment, obtain a brief medical history to evaluate your symptoms, and collect information about medications you may currently be taking. This triage process serves to assess the severity of your condition. Patients are not seen based upon time or order of arrival. Treatment will be customized for you based on your needs.

The Emergency Department providers (physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners) may order tests, such as blood tests, EKG, or x-rays to help determine the nature and extent of your problem. Please be aware that it will take additional time for these tests to be performed and analyzed prior to determining your appropriate treatment. During this time, a medical scribe assisting your providers will continuously check-in with you to ensure that your needs are met, while providing you updates.

Frequently Asked Emergency Room Questions

Can I have my friends or family here with me?

Yes. We ask that only two visitors at a time be allowed by each patient’s bedside. This results in the most efficient care for you and protects the privacy of all our patients.​

What information will I need to provide upon arrival?

A list of the current medications you are taking, as well as your reason for visiting the Emergency Center, will be needed. Having this information readily available will help to expedite the triage process. During the registration process we will ask you to provide identification, social security number, mailing address and insurance status. Treatment will not be denied based on your insurance status.​

Can I use my cell phone?

Cell phone use is discouraged while the patient is being examined or treated in the Emergency Department. If you need to make a phone call, speak to a staff member for assistance.

How will I know if I need to be admitted to the hospital?

Your emergency physician will re-evaluate your condition based on your exam results. You will either be discharged to home, admitted to the hospital, or transferred to another facility.

If you are admitted to the hospital, the procedure begins with a call to an admitting physician (the doctor who will oversee your inpatient hospital treatment). The physician will then request a hospital bed assignment. Next, a report on your condition, including previous tests and treatments, will be sent to the floor nurse. Once a bed is available, you will be transferred from the Emergency Department to your hospital room.

What should I expect upon being discharged from the Emergency Department?

Once the emergency physician determines you are able to go home, your nurse will provide discharge instructions, including which medication(s) to take and information on your condition. At that time, you will then be sent to the registration clerk to finalize your payment responsibility.
