Stress and Coping with COVID-19

Taking care of yourself, your family and your friends can actually help cope with your own stress.

Ways to help care for yourself

  • • Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.
  • • Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol and drugs.
  • • Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.
  • • Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling
The Louisiana Department of Health's Office of Behavioral Health has established a 24 hour hotline, Keep Calm Through COVID, at 1-866-310-7977 to help people cope with the emotions and stress they may be experiencing at this time. The hotline is available seven days a week. All calls are confidential.
