Thibodaux Regional Health System Hosts Hundreds of Elementary School Children for Health and Wellness Event at the Wellness Center

Over the past two years, Thibodaux Regional Health System has sponsored new playground equipment for nine elementary schools in the Lafourche Parish School District. As part of our continued efforts to improve the health and wellness of the youth in Lafourche and surrounding parishes, Thibodaux Regional hosted more than 250 fifth grade elementary school students for an exciting day of learning and physical activity at the Wellness Center.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Louisiana ranks fourth highest in the U.S. in childhood obesity, which often leads to chronic, preventable conditions in adulthood such as heart disease and diabetes.

Thibodaux Regional has taken a leadership role in addressing childhood obesity and strongly believes that a proactive approach, including exercise and nutrition education, can have a positive impact on the overall health of our youth.

“Children are our future,” said Greg Stock, Thibodaux Regional CEO. “We want them to be the best that they can be and we are striving to do everything we can to help them make healthy lifestyle choices.”

“Thibodaux Regional appreciates working with the school district superintendent, Mr. Martin, school administrators and leaders, and all of the teachers in this endeavor,” continued Stock. “We are working hard to make a difference in the health and wellness of the people in our region.”

“It has been such a blessing to have received multiple playground sites throughout our school district. Thibodaux Regional Health System has made significant improvements to many of our school sites that we simply don’t have the funding to do on our own,” said Jarod Martin, Lafourche Parish School District Superintendent of Schools.

“I am equally excited that Thibodaux Regional has hosted our fifth grade students for a day of learning at the Wellness Center,” continued Martin. “This will provide our students with valuable lessons on healthy choices, promote physical activity and expose our students to wonderfully healthy lifestyle choices. We are blessed to have such wonderful partners, and are grateful for their efforts.”
